Review Series#39; Volvo XC40

Overview

One of the most premium SUV makers Volvo offers XC40 which happens to be the cheapest SUV from the carmaker which is being offered in India. With superb features, capabilities of course from the engine the XC40 is literally made to rule the road but how’s it exactly? Follow this next blog from the Review Series.

On the Point

XC40 is available in a 2.0L Petrol engine which happens to be a 4 cylinder unit, 1969cc in displacement and producing a max. Power of 187HP with the torque output of 300Nm.

The engine is also mated with only an 8-speed Automatic transmission system and offers AWD capability as well.

Technology

With Exteriors

Starting with the front the design is really beautiful and at the same classic as well. With the grille finished in gloss black without any chrome inserts except the logo surrounds the overall front appeal is really eye-attracting. The headlamps feature DRLs that move from the center of the headlamp cluster. The headlamps also feature all projector LED setup along with washers, the same is for the fog lamps as well.

The side profile is again stunning on this particular vehicle with border looks and of course, the alloy wheels are a major attraction with larger disc brakes around 17-inches for the front and 16-inches for the rear. Aside from this, the roof is finished in gloss black and so as the pillars.

The rear profile follows the same all-time favorite Volvoish design with vertical taillamps which are of course an LED unit. The rear bumper is also finished in black with chrome surrounds on functional exhausts.

With Interiors

Starting with its dashboard it’s just a piece of art with so much perfection on every cut and crease. The infotainment system kinda feels vertical just like the one in MG Hector and features almost everything from the audio system to every other function of the vehicle such as Traction Control, Cruise Control, Park Assist, etc.

The center AC vents are placed just next to the infotainment system and are just purely a piece of art with chrome surrounds.

The central console consists of lots of storage spaces with twin cupholders a wireless charging pad along two USB charging sockets and a cigarette lighter as well. There is some sort of storage space right below the front armrest along with a dustbin too.

On to the driver’s side, the steering wheel is a mounted controls unit with a fully digital instrument cluster which kinda feels analog though but it is a fully digital unit for sure.

The rear compartment gets a good amount of legroom, knee room, but not good under-thigh support. The AC vents are also placed at the center with a USB charging socket as well. Moreover, at the rear, only the middle passenger seat features an adjustable headrest.

The boot space is also good enough with a space of 460L incapacity which is for sure very practical for this SUV. It also gets a fully panoramic sunroof which brings light as well as an airy feeling to the cabin.

Drawbacks

Well, Volvo XC40 is the cheapest option among the SUV segment from Volvo in India but at the same time, it has its own limitations as well.

  • Rear Compartment: The main problem lies with the rear compartment in which the rear seats are insanely upright which really results in back pain for the rear seat passengers. Moreover, the under-thigh support is just poor because the overall seating height in the rear compartment is low to the ground. One more thing which is really disappointing is that the headrests are fixed except the middle one which can be adjusted behind the armrest.
  • Use of Hard Plastics: The overall build of the vehicle is quite good though but still there are some portions that are equipped with hard plastics which is kinda disappointing at this price point.

Conclusion

Well, Volvo XC40 is a really good vehicle overall with plenty of features on the go. Moreover, the drive performance is really good on this vehicle with a Turbocharged petrol motor which is compatible on almost every terrain.
