The new Volkswagen Tiguan’s facelift has been introduced a few days ago in the Indian market. The major changes happen to be this time with its exteriors in which VW has enhanced the overall appeal of the vehicle. Following the classic VW styling is the new VW Tiguan is a real value for money? Welcome to the next blog of the Review Series.
On the Point
Tiguan is powered by a 2.0L TSI petrol motor which is 4 cylinder unit producing a maximum power of 190PS along with a torque output of 320Nm. The engine is only mated with a 7 speed DSG gearbox which is further integrated with VW’s legendary 4 wheel drive system known as ‘4 Motion’. The ARAI mileage of the vehicle happens to be 12.65kmpl which is quite a decent offering even though it’s a German vehicle.

Starting with the front design, this time Volkswagen has made a lot of changes with the front chrome and bumper, with some chrome inserts as well. The new grille features a stripe design that is covered in chrome finishing. The bumper is also new this time and contains front parking sensors. The headlights are LED matrix units this time with LED DRLs and also with LED indicator lights.
The side profile looks more or less the same as any other SUV and is kinda plain and basic with body cladding running across the vehicle. Moreover, a lot of chrome finish is also around the window and the roof rails are also finished in chromish type styling and seem functional as well.
The rear design’s main highlight is of course the LED tail lamps which are very unique this time. Along with the tail lamps, the reverse parking lights, and the indicators as well are LED units. The Tiguan badging is given right below the VW’s logo at the center making the car look bolder.
Starting off with the dashboard it is just nice, classic, decent, simple, plain and what not. Moreover, it follows a bit of german’s interior design language with an ashtray holder, some sort of carbon fiber finish everywhere, etc. The infotainment system is an 8-inch unit it gets Apple Car Play and Android Auto in terms of connected techs. The AC is an all 3-zone automatic climate control unit with touch functions this time.
Talking about the front seats they are decent ones in terms of comfort and all but only the driver’s seat gets the 8 way electric adjust with three memory functions as well but unfortunately, it is not the case with the co-drivers side. The steering wheel is nice to hold and contains controls for the audio system and the instrument cluster as well. By the way, the steering wheel is adjustable for both rig and reach.
The instrument cluster is a 10.25 inch digital or virtual cockpit system which is fully digital just like other Audi vehicles available in India. It shows every information about the vehicle as well it’s can be controlled from the infotainment system as well.
The central console is also nice and features a wireless charging pad along with standard charging sockets. It also gets twin cupholders as well along with some sort of storage space below the front armrest.
Coming on to the rear compartment, the comfort level is really good with a good amount of legroom, knee room, and also the under-thigh support is decent. It gets twin cupholders on the rear armrest which is fixed in the 60:40 splits seats. The rear compartment also gets twin AC vents which are supported by a three-way climate control system.
Volkswagen Tiguan also gets a panoramic sunroof which is very massive in terms of size and is really smooth as compared to the competition. The boot is also of decent capacity, 520L in terms of specs. Moreover, it features an electric boot lid which is again a nice touch.
Well, Volkswagen Tiguan is a great option especially in terms of the German SUV segment in the market, but at the same time it features some major limitations as well which are mentioned as under:
- Exteriors: The main problem in exteriors lies in the side profile of this vehicle which is absolutely under-rated the alloy wheel are the most basic units you have ever seen on the particular vehicle. Considering the pricing of the vehicle and also with others competitors especially for what they are offering in this particular segment Volkswagen should have reworked Tiguan’s exterior design language.
- Rear Compartment: The first thing which is to be noticed in the rear compartment is the hump at the center of the floor which makes it nearly impossible for the middle passenger to sit. This thing is really awkward as none of the vehicles including hatchbacks do not feature any hump at the rear.
- AC Unit: The Ac unit which is updated this time is not at all useful, inversely the previous one which is there in the older tiguan was more practical than this one. This new unit feature touch sensitive controls for the blowers and all functions of the AC and it is not able to work upto the mark.
Well, VW Tiguan can be a great option if you are looking for a powerful, decent-looking, premium German vehicle as it has got plenty of features in it with some practical stuff as well. Talking about the engine it is the best one as compared to the segment in which it is being offered. Moreover, it combined with VW’s 4 Motion tech to make it capable with 4 wheel drive system.
