Kia Seltos which was launched in India around August 2019; at the same time when MG also entered the Indian market with its Hector. Kia Seltos from its starting is great attraction for its customers. With its traditional tiger nose grille which is refined in the models available right now and to know more just dive into this next blog of Review Series.
On the Point
Currently Kia Seltos is available with two petrol and one diesel engine. The first petrol engine is Smartstream 1.5L unit which is based on Multi Point fuel Injection system and produces around 115PS@6300rpm of power with the torque output of 144Nm@4500rpm. The second petrol engine is the Smartstream 1.4 T-GDI and is based on Gasoline Direct Injection system. The engine is capable of producing a power of 140PS@6000rpm with the torque output of 242Nm@1500-3200rpm.
Coming up on the diesel engine its is the 1.5L CRDI VGT unit similar to the one as seen on the Hyundai vehicles the engine produces 115PS@4000rpm of power with the torque output of 250Nm@1500-2750rpm. The engines are well integrated with 6 speed manual, 6iMT, IVT, 7DCT, 6AT transmission options (according to the engine).
To know more refer to the Quick specs sheet as under:
Starting with its front design, the main attention to detail is its headlamps along with that Tiger nose grille which is there from its very first generation. The headlamps are made up of all LED units with the LED DRL’s which extends up to the Centre of the hood till the Kia logo. Moreover, the indicators are really gorgeous on this vehicle with LED lining which exhibits really attention to its details. The fog lamps are also equipped with the ice cube design just like seen in the Renault Kiger.
The side profile is just like any other SUV vehicle in the segment which gets more element in the upper trim like the red brake callipers and also the rear disc brakes which are only limited to top variants. The rear design is also nice with the separated design on the indicators and also the taillamps are LED which is again limited to top variant. However, the indicator and reverse parking lights are all halogen.
The attractive details in the interiors are the premium dashboard and leather seats especially in the GT and Tech lining trims. On the dashboard Kia Seltos features 10.25inch advanced touchscreen system which features all connectivity options such as the Android Auto and Apple Car play. The Infotainment system also features UVO connect system which connects your car with 58 more advanced features. Moreover, the infotainment is well integrated with the Premium 8 speaker Bose system for an amazing surround sound.
Apart from this, the front seats feature ventilation feature, the central console is also equipped with wireless charging dock. On to the driver’s side the instrument cluster is all analog with the dedicated tachometer and speedometer along with a small display at the centre showing basic information about the vehicle.
The instrument cluster is also well integrated with Smart Heads-up display. The steering wheel is also nice to hold along with the controls for audio system, cruise control etc on it. Moreover, the behind the steering wheel Seltos also features paddle shifters.
Coming on to the rear seats, first and foremost the door pockets are large enough, with the premium build quality as well. The seat leather is really comfortable with decent head room, knee room with scooped out seat backs (front seats). However, underthy support could be better as its not kinda great in the segment. The rear seta offers three headrests two of which are adjustable, it also gets centre armrest with twin cup holders, USB charging socket which is just below the air purifier.
The rear seats can be splitted in the ration of 60:40 to increase the boot carrying capacity. Moreover, the air purifier features three fragrances with the AQI (Air Quality Index) monitor. The boot is also on the decent side with 433L of space along with a non-alloy spare wheel.
While Kia Seltos is one of the most loved cars in the segment but still it features some limitation as compared to the market:
- Tech line: To be honest, Kia has done a lot of discrimination with its Tech lining, as it misses a ton of features like the Traction control, heads up display, no 6 airbags, no auto-rain sensing wipers etc.
- Sunroof: Well, the sunroof isn’t that big enough to be honest and considering this price point, its shouldn’t be acceptable at all.
- Others: Some other limitations which includes are no mirror placement in the sun visor for the driver’s side. Moreover no vanity light has been provided on to the mirror to the co-driver side.
Well, Kia is a best option available in the market right now and also in the segment as well. With its feature loaded interiors, variety of engine and transmission option no one can decline this offer. However, it is kinda on the expensive side as when compared to the MG Hector which is more bigger in the same price bracket but at the same time lags some of the features as well.
