Review Series#26; Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Overview

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was officially launched in India in 2014 and was offered in both petrol and diesel engine option. The Hybrid option was only available with the Diesel engine option at that time but it’s not the case right now. Moreover, from its starting like all other Maruti cars present at that time Ciaz was also one of the most demanded sedans present at that time.

On the Point

The current version of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is available with the K15B Hybrid petrol engine option which is 1.5L (1442cc) in engine capacity. The engine produces around 77kW@6000rpm of power with a torque output of 138Nm@4400rpm. The engine is well integrated with 5 speeds manual transmission and 4-speed automatic transmission. The claimed mileage is around 20.65kmpl(MT) and 20.04kmpl(AT).

Ciaz also gets a hybrid system that is well associated with its engine. The Hybrid system aids in the brake energy regeneration and assists in acceleration using the battery energy.

Technology

With Exteriors

The front exterior looks are greatly dominated by the LED DRLs and projector headlamp setup which is automatic indeed. Moreover, the design is also enhanced by the chrome treatment which is almost everywhere. The bumper holds the fog lamps and also the chrome details on them. The side profile is too good, to be honest, and is among the best in the segment. The door handles are finished with chrome treatment with the request sensor button on them.

The rear profile like the front is greatly enhanced by the LED taillamps with halogen indicators and reverse parking lights. Moreover, the rear look is mostly clean except for the ‘Ciaz’ badging with the Maruti Suzuki logo and the hybrid badging (‘Smart Hybrid’).

With Interiors

Looking at the interiors first thing that you’ll notice is the premium leather seats which are great in this segment. The dashboard is in the dual-tone finish with the touchscreen infotainment system which Maruti calls ‘Smart play Studio’, it gets Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Other features are automatic climate control, sunglass holder, etc.

On to the driver’s side, the instrument cluster is all analog with a small multi-information display showing you the basic information about the vehicle. Moreover, the steering wheel is equipped with audio control buttons and also with a Cruise control system. The steering wheel gets the tilt function too.

The rear side is also much spacious with a decent amount of headroom, knee room with scooped out front seats, under-thigh support, etc. The rear side is also equipped with rear AC vents, standard 12V charging socket, rear sunshade, armrest with twin cup holder. The boot space is of decent size with a capacity of 510L it also has a lower loading lip.

Drawbacks

While Ciaz can be the most affordable option available in the sedan segment, it has got certain limitations as well:

  • Sunroof: Sunroof is the biggest limitation in Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, as its all-time favorite competitor which is the Honda City gets it but still Maruti Suzuki doesn’t offer it in its Ciaz. Moreover, none of the Maruti cars available right now offers a sunroof.
  • Performance: While Maruti claims that Ciaz has got high-performance engine but still it doesn’t offer a good amount of pull which its competitors are actually capable off.
  • Rear seats: Well, this is not one of the major issues but still compared to what the competitors are offering this is just above average.

Conclusion

Well, if you want a decent budget sedan then Ciaz will definitely be the best option for you. Its interiors, its features are all selectively best for the family purpose. But if you are more into power and acceleration and specifically want a sunroof as well, then it’s better to look for other options too.
