Review Series#19; Skoda Superb

Overview

Along with Skoda Rapid, Superb was a well-known brand for the manufacturer, and that too from the very starting. Literally Superb is the best example from German engineering under the Volkswagen branding. Well, to know more about and to dive in stay with this next blog of the Review Series!

On the Point

Skoda Superb is powered by a 2.0L Turbocharged petrol TSI motor which produces around 187.74HP@4200-6000rpm of power with the torque of 320Nm@1450-4200rpm. The engine has a displacement of about 1984cc and the transmission type is only available in automatic 7 speed DSG in it.

With Exteriors

Well, since it is Skoda this means no (literally no) lag or a bad touch will be seen on the car in terms of design language. On the front as obvious across all Skoda cars you get a LED DRL set up with the LED headlamp setup with a bold chrome grille in the center. The headlamps get a washer function too which has a lot of spray on offer. However, the indicator lights are halogens which do not affect the front appeal of the vehicle. On to the bumper the fog lamps are LED which is the long and gorgeous one in terms of design language.

The side profile is absolutely crazy with the full-sized alloy wheels which kinda fits into this design language. Moreover, the ORVM’s are also equipped with a projector that projects the Skoda logo onto the ground. However, the ORVM’s will remind you of the Volkswagen Polo. Also, the side profile contains much of the chrome treatment around the windows and below the doors as well.

The rear section is amazing with beautiful taillamps which are all LED including the indicator lights. Also, no Skoda logo is there on the rear side of the vehicle rather the brand name is written in words. The bumper gets two fake exhausts, but the car features two rear exhausts setup place right below the bumper.

Technology

With Interiors

Looking upon the interiors they are just the best with the dual-tone finish and with the 8inch infotainment display. The front seats are also equipped with the heating and cooling function which is well integrated with that touchscreen unit. The central console is also equipped with every control all along with the gear lever. Skoda Superb is also well equipped with storage spaces in the central console or in the glove boxes. However, the vehicle does not feature any digital instrument cluster unit, all the meters are analog including the speedometer which is kinda disappointing at this price point. Moreover, it is also equipped with every control on the steering wheel you probably think of.

On the rear compartment, Skoda literally worked on practicality including the rear AC vents and the charging ports the rear passenger will also get 3 adjustable headrests with head hold function (on the default two, not the middle one), a central armrest with twin cup and pen holders, cigarette lighter and ashtray. Moreover, you can access the boot from the rear compartment. On to the boot, it’s massive with the capacity of 625L, and it’s also equipped again with some practicality stuff such as the light placement which is also removable, hooks and the boot also features hands-free virtual peddle opening.

Drawbacks

Well, Skoda Superb is one of the luxurious sedans which available in India but in that segment too its suffers some drawbacks as under:

  • No Engine Options: Not only Skoda Superb is not available in diesel but also in petrol variant it does not offer any engine choices which is disappointing as the market is offering such things.
  • No Digital Instrument Cluster: The cluster including the Speedometer is not digital except a small multi-information display which again shows only necessary information about the vehicle.
  • No Transmission Options: The Skoda Superb is only available in one transmission type which is the 7 speeds DCT. It means no manual, no CVT gearbox is on offer.

Conclusion

The Skoda Superb is a great buy honestly with its rich features, practicality, and luxurious interiors and at last with the German engineering, it is above all the sedans available in the segment. But this is only if you are okay with the 2.0L Petrol motor and with the 7-Speed DCT gearbox. Hope you can get what you wanted from this blog!
