Review Series #12; Honda Amaze

Do you know a mid-size sedan that has an acceleration almost equal to Honda City and which fits in your budget as well? Well, that mid-size sedan is the new Honda Amaze which is an overall well-packaged vehicle by Honda. Amaze not only now but from its first generation had attracted a lot of customers because of its value for money deal.

By the way, welcome to the next blog of the Review Series.

On the Point

Engine and Spec’s

Amaze is powered by one petrol and one diesel engine. The petrol engine is i-VTEC 1.2L which produces a maximum power of 66kW@6000rpm in the CVT variant. The diesel engine is of 1.5L i-DTEC motor which produces a maximum power of 73kW@3600rpm under manual transmission. The claimed efficiency of petrol is 18.6kmpl (MT) and 18.3kmpl (CVT) whereas the claimed efficiency of the diesel option is 24.7kmpl (MT) and 21.0kmpl (CVT).

For more specs review the quick specs sheet as under:

On the front Amaze features the all-time favorite Honda bold chrome treatment which is also seen in City, WR-V, etc. This treatment extends till the projector headlamps are set up with LED DRLs and halogen indicators. On the center, there’s a huge Honda logo of course under which the chrome-finished grille is placed. The front bumper consists of fog lamps with again some chrome treatment.

On the side this time the door handles are finished in chrome with the touch sensor as well. The Amaze from the side kinda looks like all other midsize sedans. Amaze is also equipped with alloy wheels this time adding a more unique look to the side profile.

The rear side is equipped with LED lights, along with the halogen indicator and reverses lights. On the center, there is a Honda logo of course, under which there is a reverse parking camera. The rear bumper also features a chrome treatment at the bottom which looks like a skid plate to me.

The interiors overall haven’t changed much this time. The only change is done is with the chrome treatment on almost everything. The car features leather seats which are decent enough. Also, decent storage space is provided on the central console and on the glove box as well.

On the rear the seats are comfortable but no adjustable headrests are being offered for rear passengers. Moreover, no headrest is provided for the middle rear passenger as well. The rear door pockets are however large enough to hold 1-liter bottles. Coming on to the boot, it is 420L and a lot of cost-cutting has been done in this section. Firstly the exposed metal surface is wrapped with the carpet no bodywork is given there. Secondly, no light is placed in the boot, and also the spare wheel is not an alloy.

In terms of tech, Amaze is again decent, it features an infotainment system which is not that good but it’s decent again. The instrument cluster is all analog except for a small multi-information display. Amaze also features steering mounted controls, cruise control, engine start-stop, and height adjustment for the driver’s seat as well as for the steering wheel. This time the major change is that it features new front indoor lamps and it also features a party trick for the power window i.e. its pinch feature.

Well Amaze is a good package from Honda in India but it has some limitations too which are listed as:

  • Rear Compartment: The major mistakes in this car are with its rear compartments, the rear seats don’t feature a dedicated adjustable headrest which is not accepted at this price point. Moreover, no rear AC vent is provided for the rear passengers, and a USB charging socket is too.
  • Minimalistic technology and design: The exterior part is kinda good but Amaze lags behind in many features from the interiors as no auto-dimming is provided in the IRVM, no refrigeration feature for the glove box, storage spaces on the central console are the simplest ones. Moreover, no dedicated armrest is given for front passengers. I agree that these features are not that much required but for the price point at which the Amaze is actually offered these features are kinda mandatory.

Well, the car is good if you want perfect acceleration and pickup performance. But, if you are looking for quality in the interiors and want more features as well this vehicle is not meant for you, there are better options that are available at this price point for the features above mentioned.
