Unveiled on 15th September, 2021 MG Astor featured a great hype on its live reveal. Well, MG Astor was top on its searches because it features first AI bot in the car which was also told by its Tagline ‘AI Inside’.
On the Point
Well, to be honest there are many things to talk about in MG Astor. But let’s move on to the first thing which is its Engine and Spec’s.
Engine and Spec’s
MG Astor is powered by Brit Dynamic 220 Turbo Petrol engine having a displacement of about 1349cc producing a torque of 220Nm and a Power of 140PS. The Engine features a 6 speed Automatic transmission. MG has also given a second option of VI – Tech Petrol engine with manual as well as 8 speed CVT transmissions having a displacement of 1498cc with a torque output of 144Nm and 110PS of power. And till now there’s no official claimed fuel efficiency of the respected engines.
On the front MG has done lots of work with its designer Carl Gotham (Designer at MG) explained a lot about the designing of MG Astor. The MG Astor in the front features a bold chrome grill with a huge MG logo at its center. Moreover, the headlamps on MG Astor are known as ‘Striking HAWK EYE full LED’ which features 9 crystal diamond elements.
On the sides the design language in MG Astor extend from its hood and goes back to the rear. The wheels this time are 17” alloys. Looking from side Astor reminds you of Hyundai Creta which is its perfect competitor.
The same bold look in the front is present on its rear with the huge tail lights containing the same crystal LED’s which are covered by some LED out linings. The Astor branding is present on the boot’s center with the huge MG logo in its center. Coming on to the bumper MG Astor will feature some aerodynamics cuts on its bumper. However, we don’t know if they are functional or not.
ADAS (Advance Driver Assistance Systems)
The best and main part about Astor is its technology, first of all Astor will feature ADAS (Advance driver Assistance Systems) level 2 which in turn contains a lot of side driver assisted technologies such as LKA (Lane Keep Assist). The same was seen in XUV7OO this month.
Along with this the main feature in Astor is its live AI bot present on its Dashboard which can give the driver a feel of a passenger with him. The AI tech can actually make a conversation with driver in terms of telling jokes, about weather, playing songs etc. The AI is connected by many third party applications such Park +, KOINEARTH, MapmyIndia, Jio Saavn etc. These services are connected by telecommunication network provided by Jio.
With all this Astor gets heated ORVM’s which are segment’s first, Electric Parking Brake, PM 2.5 filter, Digital key with Bluetooth connection capability etc. Astor also gets panoramic sunroof which covers 90% of the roof giving an airy cabin to the passengers. Moreover, Astor also features 10 inches infotainment display with all connectivities and a 7 inches instrument cluster giving all necessary information’s about the vehicle.
In terms of safety, Astor gets ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), hill descent control, 360 degree camera with the airbags as standard.
Some other interesting tech’s which Astor features is that as normal steering Astor’s steering gets adjustment configurations but also with this it gets three modes namely: Normal, Dynamic, Urban which enhances the steering feel and feedback accordingly. It can make the steering super light in traffic conditions while on highways it makes the steering heavier and enhances the grip.
Summing up, the Astor will be available in 3 color schemes Dual tone Sangria red, dual tone iconic Ivory and Dual tone Tuxedo black. Moreover, Astor will be launched in India in October 2021. In my opinion, it’s truly a big step taken by MG by launching Astor with all these technologies and capabilities that can make India to take one more step towards the future.
